Why Did The Potomac Riverdogs Black Change Their Name To the Ashburn Rebels?
The Potomac Riverdogs are a great travel baseball organization associated with Dulles Little League (DLL). This team has enjoyed two seasons together with DLL and accomplished many team goals during that time. However, the parents and coaches feel that playing both Travel and DLL baseball is too much for the kids and is not conducive toward achieving future team goals and player development. The parents on the team decided that DLL participation would be optional for our team and not mandated by the Riverdogs bylaws. Therefore, a name change was necessary.
Most of us have been Little League guys since our own storied childhoods and this decision was not easy. However, this team is, and always will be, about the kids and their best interests. The kids love playing on the same team together, respect each other, and have formed strong friendships. The coaches enjoy coaching these kids and teaching them higher level skills and concepts. The parents enjoy spending time together during baseball and outside of baseball. The team is a baseball family and, in the end, family wins out.
After soliciting name suggestions, running online polls with thousands of votes, and evaluating potential logos, the team finally narrowed it choices and voted. On November 5, 2012, the Ashburn Rebels were established!
